Angiopoietin-1 and angiopoietin-2 in diabetes mellitus, roles clarified

"Microvascular complications in diabetes identify those at risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), suggesting a link between abnormal neovascularisation and CVD. This may be related to high plasma vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).
"We hypothesised increased Ang-1 and -2 in patients with diabetes that are related to VEGF, medium-term glycaemic control, endothelial damage/dysfunction and atherosclerosis," wrote H.S. Lim and colleagues, University of Birmingham.
