RIP140 agonist advances into studies for treatment of obesity, type 2 diabetes

CytRx Corp. (CYTR) announced that it has determined to advance a small interfering RNA (siRNA) against RIP140 into animal studies for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity.

In work conducted independently by Michael P. Czech, PhD, professor and chair of molecular medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) and Dr. Malcolm Parker of the Imperial College London, these investigators have shown that suppression of RIP140 by gene-deletion or siRNA results in the acceleration of fat burning in animals and fat cells, respectively.
