Gly482Ser polymorphism in PPARGC1 may explain some of the relationships between-obese variances observed in metabolic syndrome-related traits.

"Factors influencing the severity of the metabolic syndrome among obese subjects or the conversion to cardiovascular disease or type 2 diabetes (T2D) remain largely unknown, but there is strong evidence for genetic susceptibilities. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma coactivator-1 (PPARGC1) is a transcriptional coactivator of many nuclear receptors including PPAR-gamma, involved in the regulation of fatty acid oxidation, skeletal muscle fiber type specificity, and gluconeogenesis," scientists in Canada...
