High visceral fat mass amount is linked to metabolic changes in offspring of diabetics

High amounts of visceral fat mass are associated with multiple metabolic changes in offspring of type 2 diabetic patients.

Researchers in Finland conducted a study "to investigate the relative contribution of total body fat mass (TFM) and intra-abdominal fat mass (IAFM) to metabolic consequences of obesity in offspring of type 2 diabetic parents. [They conducted a] cross-sectional study [including] 129 nondiabetic offspring of diabetic parents (59 men, 70 women, age 35.7±6.3 y, body mass index 26.2±4.6 kg/m2)."
