Lowering fasting glucose criterion improves diagnosis of IGT or metabolic syndrome

Lowering the criterion for impaired fasting plasma glucose to 5.6 mmol/L improves the identification of subjects with impaired glucose tolerance or metabolic syndrome. According to a study from Mexico, "Recently, the Expert Committee of the American Diabetes Association proposed to decrease the lower limit for normal fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels to 5.6 mmol/L.
