Insulin resistance and atherosclerosis risk increase with adiponectin levels

Insulin resistance and atherosclerosis risk are higher in individuals with lower adiponectin levels.

"Adiponectin, an adipocyte-derived hormone is implicated in insulin resistance and atherosclerosis. The aim of our study is to compare the levels of adiponectin in subjects with prediabetes and diabetes with subjects with normal glucose," investigators in the United States report.

S. Yaturu and colleagues, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, conducted a cross sectional study. Measurement included "adiponectin and insulin in addition to fasting lipid panel and glucose in 28 subjects with prediabetes, 28 subjects with normal fasting...
