Study 1: Hepatocyte nuclear factor-4 alpha is essential for glucose stimulated insulin secretion by pancreatic beta-cells.
According to a study from Japan, "Mutations in the hepatocyte nuclear factor (HNF)-4 alpha gene cause a form of maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY1) that is characterized by impairment of glucose-stimulated insulin secretion by pancreatic beta-cells.
