Research reports on obesity and diabetes from University of Sao Paulo provide new insights

Researchers detail in "Changes in insulin sensitivity in morbidly obese patients with or without metabolic syndrome after gastric bypass," new data in obesity and diabetes. According to a study from Brazil, "We evaluated the medium term changes in insulin sensitivity in morbidly obese patients with and without metabolic syndrome before and after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP) with silastic ring (Capella-Fobi). A longitudinal, clinical intervention study was conducted in 40 patients between 18 and 65 years old, with obesity class II and III (BMI >or=35-52 kg/m2), divided into 2 groups: no metabolic syndrome (NMS, n=21) and metabolic syndrome (MS, n=19)."
