Study data from University of Florence provide new insights into obesity and diabetes prognosis

Investigators publish new data in the report "IDF and ATP-III definitions of metabolic syndrome in the prediction of all-cause mortality in type 2 diabetic patients." According to recent research published in the journal Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, "The metabolic syndrome (MS) is associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Recently, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) proposed to lower diagnostic thresholds for fasting glucose and waist circumference and to limit the diagnosis of MS only to subjects with abdominal adiposity."
