According to a study from Zurich, Switzerland, "Since 1994, laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGBP) has gained popularity for the treatment of morbid obesity. In analogy to open surgery, the operation was initially performed in a retrocolic fashion."
