A new study, 'Combination therapy of pioglitazone with voglibose improves glycemic control safely and rapidly in Japanese type 2-diabetic patients on hemodialysis,' is now available. According to a study from Tokyo, Japan, "Unfortunately, clinicians are diagnosing a growing number of patients on hemodialysis (HD) with insulin-resistant, Type 2 diabetes in Japan. While alpha-glucosidase inhibitors (alpha-GI) such as oral antidiabetic agents are indicated for Japanese diabetics on HD, pioglitazone and other PPARgamma agonists are now contraindicated."
