Research conducted at I. Braghetto and co-researchers has updated our knowledge about obesity

"Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) has been introduced as a multipurpose restrictive procedure for obese patients. Variations of the surgical technique may be important for the late results," scientists writing in the journal Obesity Surgery report.

"50 patients submitted to LSG from January 2005 to December 2006 were studied. Mean age was 38.2 years, preoperative weight was 103.4 +/- 14.1 kg (78 to 146 kg), and preoperative BMI was 37.9 +/- 3.4 (32.9 to 46.8). Important co-morbidities were present in 39 patients (78%).
