Research from Monash University provides new data on obesity and diabetes

In this recent report, researchers in Melbourne, Australia conducted a study "To estimate the cost-effectiveness of surgically induced weight loss relative to conventional therapy for the management of recently diagnosed type 2 diabetes in class I/II obese patients. This study builds on a within-trial cost-efficacy analysis."

"The analysis compares the lifetime costs and quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) between the two intervention groups.
