Ketamine Effective for Pediatric Fracture Patients

The controversial anesthetic ketamine is safe and reliable for sedating children who require treatment for bone fractures, report researchers writing in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery - American Volume. Although the drug is more widely known for its use as an illicit hallucinogen, "there recently has been a resurgence in the utilization of ketamine...for emergency-department procedures requiring sedation," explained E.C. McCarty and colleagues at Vanderbilt University in their report ("Ketamine sedation for the reduction of children's fractures in the emergency department," J Bone Joint Surg-amer Vol, 2000;82A(7):912-918). ...
