Cognitive behavioral therapy plus exercise may alleviate symptoms

Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and exercising provides modest relief from some of the symptoms associated with chronic, multisymptom illnesses like Gulf War Veterans' illnesses (GWVI), according to a new study. Upon their return from the Gulf War (1990-1991), many veterans from both the United States and other allied forces began to report chronic, unexplained fatigue, pain, cognitive, and other symptoms, which are collectively referred to as GWVI. There is no known cause or effective treatment for GWVI, and symptoms are reminiscent of other chronic, multisymptom illnesses, such as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.
