Antidepressant shown to improve symptoms, relieve pain of fibromyalgia

Results of a multicenter clinical trial demonstrated that the antidepressant duloxetine (Cymbalta; Eli Lilly and Co.) improves symptoms of fibromyalgia and relieves pain associated with the musculoskeletal disorder.

Nearly six times more common in women than in men, fibromyalgia is marked by widespread body pain and muscle tenderness, often accompanied by headaches, sleep disturbances, and fatigue.
