Missouri lawmaker highlights anti-Alzheimer effort

In tribute to Ronald Reagan, a lawmaker from Missouri who once got campaign help from the "Great Communicator" is pushing federal legislation he hopes will bolster funding and public awareness about the brain-degenerating disease that claimed the former president's life.

Republican Senator Kit Bond soon plans to reintroduce the Ronald Reagan Alzheimer's Breakthrough Act, saying it would double to $1.4 billion the funding for Alzheimer research at the National Institutes of Health.

Bond has said the measure also would boost funding for the National Family Caregiver Support Program from $153 million to $250 million, reauthorize a grant program to help...
