According to recent research from Montreal, Canada, "The relation between open-field and emergence tests was examined in mice with idiopathic hypertension. Spontaneous hypertensive mice (SHM) crossed more segments and reared more often in the open-field than normotensive controls at both age levels. in contrast, grooming episodes decreased only in the older SHM cohort."

"While young SHM emerged more quickly from a toy object only partially, complete emergence was faster only in the older SHM cohort. in the entire series, open-field segments were inversely correlated with 2- and 4-paw emergence latencies.
