Georgia lawmakers get more details of strategy to manage health programs

Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue's administration fleshed out more of the details January 18, 2005, of its strategy for keeping three major healthcare programs afloat through a combination of additional state money and fresh steps to curb unnecessary or fraudulent costs.

State employees not only will face an average 13% increase in premiums for state health benefits but also will be charged $9 more per month if they smoke and $50 more per month if a spouse who works is covered by the state but could get his or her own private policy.
