AARP Pennsylvania calls for rejection of proposed nursing home spending cuts



January 7th, 2007

AARP Pennsylvania announced its opposition to proposed restrictions on state funding of Medicaid payments to nursing homes serving more than 80,000 Pennsylvania seniors.

"With one of the nation's largest nursing home populations, Pennsylvania stands to be among the biggest losers," said Ray Landis, associate state director of AARP Pennsylvania. "This proposal could be devastating on several fronts, impacting older Pennsylvanians well beyond nursing home residents."

Current federal rules allow states to implement up to a 6% quality assessment fee on nursing homes to raise revenue to help pay the state share of Medicaid. The Bush Administration's plan...
