Otolaryngologists in Israel conducted a "retrospective study" to "challenge the need for mastoidectomy" in CI surgery, "by comparing the advantages and disadvantages of the classic technique for CI, the mastoidectomy posterior tympanotomy approach (MPTA), with the suprameatal approach (SMA), a nonmastoidectomy approach."
