Iowans for Equal Rights Meets With State Health Department



October 26th, 2008

Officers and directors of small business advocacy group Iowans for Equal Rights met with public health director Thomas Newton on October 7. An Assistant Attorney General also joined the meeting. One member of the Iowa legislature, a consultant to the group, Norman E. Kjono, also participated in the meeting by telephone.

Iowans for Equal Rights does not oppose the current Iowa smoking ban. The group seeks to assure the ban's enforcement is carried out in a fiscally responsible manner and is confined to the department's authority.
