The Dallas Morning News Names District Attorney Craig Watkins as 2008 Texan of the Year

The Dallas Morning News names Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins as its Texan of the Year. The newspaper's Editorial Board recognizes Watkins for his uncommon impact on the Dallas criminal justice system. As noted in the editorial, for his efforts to reform an imperfect criminal justice system and for his willingness to stake out politically precarious territory somewhere between "hug a thug" and "convict at all costs," Watkins is the 2008 Dallas Morning News Texan of the Year.
