Wayne County Circuit Court Halts Work Under Planting Contracts



March 8th, 2009

"Judge John A. Murphy of the Wayne County Circuit Court ruled today that work may not go forward under four contracts the Detroit City Council let in violation of a Detroit ordinance," stated Albert Garrett, lifelong Detroit resident and one of the plaintiffs in the court action.

"Detroit has an ordinance which establishes a very specific procedure which must be followed before the city may let any contract which privatizes work performed by city employees," continued Garrett. "In December 2008, the Detroit City Council approved four contracts with four companies, totaling about $600,000, for tree and stump removal and planting on city property.
