Reductions in Medicare payment for drugs could impact continuum of cancer care

On July 27, 2004, the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued the 2005 Proposed Physician Fee Schedule, which includes estimated payment rates for select chemotherapy drugs used to treat patients in physician offices.

Although more current data will be used to set actual 2005 reimbursement rates for drugs, the estimates provide a glimpse into what the future may hold for providers and Medicare beneficiaries - and the outlook is not promising.
