Tube model facilitates assessment of central venous catheter performance

A novel tube model can facilitate the assessment of central venous catheter performance in hemodialysis.

"Central venous catheters are widely used as a hemoaccess method for dialysis therapy," scientists in Belgium explained.

In a study conducted by G. Mareels and colleagues at the State University of Ghent, the "performance parameters (velocities, pressure drop, shear rates, access recirculation) of the Niagara catheter" were "analyzed using computational fluid dynamics."
