Aberdeen Australia Equity Fund, Inc. Announces Payment of Quarterly Distribution

Aberdeen Australia Equity Fund, Inc. (AMEX:IAF) (the "Fund"), a closed-end equity fund, announced that it paid on October 10, 2008, a quarterly distribution of US $0.40 per share to all shareholders of record as of September 30, 2008. For the 12 months to September 30, 2008, the Fund has paid total distributions amounting to US $1.80 per share.

The policy of the Board of Directors is to provide investors with a stable distribution rate. Each quarterly distribution will be paid out of current income, supplemented by realized capital gains and, to the extent necessary, paid-in capital.

The Fund is subject to U.S. corporate, tax and securities laws....
