Detroit-based hospital systems to expand into Oakland County

The Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System and St. John Health say they will proceed with plans to expand in Oakland County now that a judge has rejected a suit to stop them.

Botsford General Hospital, Trinity Health-Michigan, William Beaumont Hospital, Covenant Medical Center and Mount Clemens General Hospital had asked Ingham County Circuit Judge James Giddings to halt the projects.

They sued Henry Ford, St. John and the state, which gave the 2 health systems permission for the new hospitals. Detroit, labor and business leaders also opposed the move, saying it would accelerate the growth in healthcare costs.
