Report published on biomarkers for early diagnosis of intra-amniotic infection

Ciphergen Biosystems, Inc., (NASDAQ:CIPH) announced that the SELDI ProteinChip technology was used to discover several biomarkers that showed promising results in the early diagnosis of intra-amniotic infection (IAI), a major cause of preterm birth.

This study, "Diagnosis of Intra-amniotic Infection by Proteomic Profiling and Identification of Novel Biomarkers," which was published in the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA), also reported that these biomarkers could be detected in serum, suggesting that development of a noninvasive diagnostic test may be possible.
