Ban smoking in public places and save lives, says cancer charity

A law to ban smoking in public places could save more lives more quickly than the development of a single new anticancer drug - according to Cancer Research U.K.

Professor Alex Markham, the charity's chief executive, argued that the single most important contribution to tackling cancer in the next decade is legislation to stub out smoking in the country's pubs, restaurants and other enclosed workplaces.

Markham set out his argument in the charity's new policy document, The Cancer Challenge: Agenda for Change.
