Two environmental groups announced plans to sue Allegheny Energy

Two environmental groups announced plans to sue Allegheny Energy for alleged violations of Pennsylvania and federal law at its Hatfield Ferry plant.

Citizens for Pennsylvania's Future and the Environmental Integrity Project filed notice of intent to sue on behalf of residents who live near the Greene County plant.

Charlotte O'Rourke, who lives about one mile from the plant, said soot from the plant has rained down for years. She blamed the plant on her husband's death at age 57 of a rare cancer.

Charles McPhedran, a Citizens for Pennsylvania's Future attorney, said just 1 day a week is free of pollution from the plant.
