Federal grants awarded to help small hospitals in West Virginia

More than $819,000 in federal grants have been awarded to help small hospitals in West Virginia.

The state Department of Health and Human Resources received a $485,700 grant to help hospitals with 25 or fewer beds become licensed as critical access hospitals, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy G. Thompson said October 4, 2004.

Critical access hospitals receive cost-based reimbursements from Medicare for acute inpatient and outpatient services.

The state also received a $183,920 grant to help hospitals with 49 or fewer beds pay for computers, software and technical assistance.
