ATHOS study results presented at geriatric conference

Boehringer Ingelheim presented the results of the ATHOS study at the American Geriatrics Society Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida. The results of ATHOS showed treatment with MicardisPlus, a combination of telmisartan (Micardis) 80mg and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) 12.5mg, controls blood pressure more effectively over 24 hours compared to the combination of amlodipine 10mg and HCTZ 12.5mg, two recommended treatments in older people with isolated systolic hypertension (ISH). In addition, MicardisPlus had the benefit of superior tolerability, with far fewer reports of adverse events and discontinuations in the Micardis + HCTZ group. Lead ATHOS...
