Protein markers with PSA levels useful in predicting prostate cancer recurrence

Ciphergen Biosystems, Inc., (CIPH) announced that Dr. Daniel W. Chan and Dr. Zhen Zhang, of the Johns Hopkins Medical School in Baltimore, Maryland, working in collaboration with Ciphergen scientists, presented results at the American Urological Association Meeting in San Antonio, Texas. The results suggest that two protein markers, in combination with PSA levels, may be useful in predicting risk of recurrence within 5 years of diagnosis. The study analyzed serum from 104 patients with prostate cancer, half of whom had a recurrence of their cancer within 5 years of surgery and half of whom did not after 5 years of follow-up.
