Reports advance knowledge in cancer vaccines research

Reports from the United States highlight recent research on cancer vaccines. Study 1: Scientists review dendritic cells as therapeutic cancer vaccines in a recent issue of Nature Reviews Immunology. "Mouse studies have shown that the immune system can reject tumors, and the identification of tumor antigens that can be recognized by human T cells has facilitated the development of immunotherapy protocols. Vaccines against cancer aim to induce tumor-specific effector T cells that can reduce the tumor mass, as well as tumor-specific memory T cells that can control tumor relapse.
