Kidney cell phosphate transporter studied, down-regulation clarified

Recent research from Japan has reported on the role of membrane microdomains in parathyroid hormone (PTH)-mediated down-regulation of type IIa sodium-dependent phosphate transporter (NaPi-Iia) in opossum kidney cells (OK-N2).

"PTH rapidly down-regulates NaPi-IIa via an endocytic pathway. Since the relationship between PTH signaling and NaPi-IIa endocytosis has not been explored, we investigated the role of membrane microdomains in this process," wrote K. Nashiki and colleagues, University of Tokushima.
