"New therapeutic options such as the highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) have significantly improved morbidity and mortality of HIV-infected patients. Consequently, age-related diseases become more manifest," scientists in Switzerland report.
"In addition," wrote S. Egger and colleagues at the University of Basel Hospital, "HIV infection itself causes certain cardiovascular morbidity. Therefore, treatment of cardiovascular symptoms of HIV-positive patients becomes more and more important."
