Norepinephrine regulation and diurnal rhythm of protein kinase phosphorylation

The effects of the endogenous neurotransmitter norepinephrine (NE) on the regulation and diurnal rhythm of the p38 mitogen-activate protein kinase (p38MAPK) from the rat pineal gland have been clarified.

C.L. Chik and colleagues of the University Alberta demonstrated that NE increased the levels of phosphorylated MAPK kinase 3/6 (MKK3/6) and p38MAPK in rat pinealocytes in a dose-dependent fashion.

Time-course studies showed a gradual increase in MKK3/6 and p38MAPK phosphorylation that peaked between 1 and 2 h following NE stimulation and persisted for 4 h.
