Annexin 1-derived peptide Ac2-26 reduces allergic inflammation in rats

The annexin 1-derived peptide Ac2-26 amerliorates allergic inflammation in a rat model. "Previous investigations have provided evidence that the N-terminal peptide of annexin 1 (peptide Ac2-26) has the capacity of reproducing the anti-inflammatory actions of the full-length protein in many systems," pharmacologists in Brazil explained. In their study, C. Bandeira-Melo and coauthors at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation evaluated the "effectiveness of the peptide Ac2-26 as an antiallergic tool in a model of rat pleurisy," and sought to determine "some of the mechanisms involved."
