Autotransplantation increases the 3-year survival for acute myeloid leukemia patients in first or second remission. "Most acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients lack human leukocyte antigen-identical sibling donors for transplantation. Autotransplants and unrelated donor (URD) transplants are therapeutic options," researchers in the United States report.
