CASCADE scientists call for open discussions about E.U. legislation regarding chemicals in food

At the Annual Meeting of the E.U. supported research Network CASCADE, an organization of scientists studying the human health effects of chemicals in food, over 90 scientists from Europe, Japan and USA met tand called for joint discussions with consumers and industry on the proposed E.U. chemicals legislation. Currently, more than 100,000 chemicals are released into the environment and come in contact with humans via for example preservatives in food, flame retardants in computers and plastic softeners. For about 80 000 of these chemicals there is not enough knowledge to say if, and in that case how, harmful they might be to humans. Chemicals as contaminants in food...
