Researchers Find Genetic Link

Researchers at the University of Minnesota have found that men who are missing part of their Y chromosome can be infertile regardless of their sperm count, and if they conceive using assisted reproduction, there is a strong chance that the same genetic deletion will be passed to their sons.

Performing the study, which was reported in the February 20, 1997, issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, were Jon Pryor, associate professor of urologic surgery, and Ken Roberts, assistant professor of urologic surgery, along with colleagues at the University of Minnesota, the Promega Corp. in Madison, Wis., and the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
