School Cites Honesty in Firing of Dean

An openly gay dean has been fired at Albertus Magnus College, New Haven, Connecticut, with school officials maintaining it was an issue of honesty, not sexual orientation.

Officials claim that the man, 43, associate dean of continuing education, is a Roman Catholic priest but did not say so when he applied for his job six years ago.

The man received a letter October 22, 1997 from school President Julia McNamara, notifying him he would be relieved of his duties.

"The decision was made after the president became aware of information that the man had not been completely honest on his job application," school spokeswoman Betsey...
