Kansas Will Pay For Viagra Claims Under Medicaid

Kansas will pay for the impotence drug Viagra for men who are clients of Medicaid, the federal-state health insurance program for indigents and those living on low incomes.

The Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services has cleared the drug for payment under the Medicaid program because the federal Health Care Finance Administration said states must cover it, SRS spokesman John Garlinger said.

However, as of May 20, 1998, SRS has had no claims filed by Medicaid clients requesting payment for the drug, and doesn't expect there to be much of a demand.
