Testosterone Replacement Reverses Declining Sexual Activity in Aged Male Rats

Long-term testosterone replacement may favorably alter the decline in the process of sexual activity with aging.

Y. Sato et al. in Japan investigated the effects of long-term testosterone replacement on copulatory behavior and dopaminergic neurotransmission in the medial preoptic area of aged male rats ("Restoration of Sexual Behavior and Dopaminergic Neurotransmission by Long Term Exogenous Testosterone Replacement in Aged Male Rats," Journal of Urology, October 1998;160(4):1572-1575).

The behaviors of two experimental groups were observed: 1) a long-term replacement group castrated at 12 months of age and receiving testosterone replacement therapy...
