A.M. Best Report: Insurance Stock Indexes 2008 Market Review: P/C Insurance Index Experienced Depression-Like Drops in 2008

• Since 1933, only twice has A.M. Best’s U.S. Property/Casualty Insurance Index (AMBUPC) fallen by more than its 2008 drop of 24.2%. A.M. Best’s U.S. Life/Health Insurance Index, which historically has outperformed the AMBUPC, recorded its largest calendar-year drop in price since it first was calculated in 1941.
