Tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand inhibits tumor growth
August 14th, 2006
According to recent research from the United States, transduction of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-related apoptosis-inducing ligand into hematopoietic cells leads to inhibition of syngeneic tumor growth in vivo. "TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) is a member of the TNF family of cytokines and has been shown to induce cell death in many types of tumor and transformed cells but not in normal cells. This tumor-selective property has made TRAIL a promising candidate for the development of cancer therapy," wrote K.L. Song and colleagues, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
