Study suggests antiemetic drug prevents post-op vomiting in children under 2

New study results showed that the antiemetic Zofran (ondansetron hydrochloride) Injection reduced the incidence of post-operative vomiting (POV) associated with surgery under general anesthesia in children 1 month to 2 years old.

Results from the multi-center study were presented at the 2004 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

"Zofran was well-tolerated and significantly more effective than placebo in preventing POV in young children in this study," said Samia N. Khalil, MD, professor, pediatric anesthesia, University of Texas Health Science Center, and lead investigator of the study.
