Cervicothoracic extension osteotomy for chin-on-chest deformity evaluated

The safety and efficacy of cervicothoracic extension osteotomy for chin-on-chest deformity has been evaluated.

"Chin-on-chest deformity is a disabling manifestation of ankylosing spondylitis," orthopedic surgeons in North Carolina explained. "Surgical treatment consists of extension osteotomy at the cervicothoracic junction."

In a recent study, T.A. Belanger and coauthors at the Miller Orthopedic Clinic in Charlotte sought "to characterize the clinical presentation of this deformity and to determine the long-term functional and radiographic outcomes of treatment."
