With legislation such as HIPAA requiring that patient records be kept confidential, hospitals and healthcare organizations have gone to great lengths to ensure that their networks and computers are secure from unauthorized users. However, printing is often seen as the last mile of defense when dealing with HIPAA requirements and many fail to consider the ramifications of an unauthorized user acquiring confidential patient records off of the printer.
